CHEF’SPECIAL STUNS CROWDS WITH WORLD’S FIRST 360 DEGREES STAGE FLIP
Dutch rock band Chef’Special has literally turned the possibilities of what a live performance can be upside down with their stunning opening slot at the annual De Vrienden van Amstel LIVE extravaganza. During the performance of their hit song ‘Amigo’ the stage tilts and eventually rotates 360 degrees, with the band still on it. The stunning combination of performance, stage technique and show design is a world’s first.
De Vrienden van Amstel LIVE is known for its spectacular stage design and innovative use of stage techniques. As part its 25th year celebration, this year’s show wows audiences with a breathtaking opener, in which five piece band Chef’Special turns the 15.000 capacity venue upside down. Audiences gasp when the floating stage they play on starts to tilt and the band continues playing, even when it nears a 90 degree angle. When it takes a full turn and the band continues to play while literally standing upside down, the crowd stands in awe. Eventually the stage rotates a full 360 degrees without the band missing a beat.
This spectacular opening of the 20 night stand at Rotterdam Ahoy is a collaboration between Chef’Special and event organizer and live concept developer Tribe Company, the producer of the annual De Vrienden van Amstel LIVE series of shows. “It’s absolutely insane being up there,” says Chef’Special singer Joshua Nolet. “And it is a world’s first, which makes it extra special. We know that a DJ like Armin van Buuren did something similar at this event, but never before has an entire band played upside down as part of their performance while the entire stage makes a 360 degree turn as well.”
When this year’s Vrienden Van Amstel Live 25th anniversary edition concert series ends on January 27th, 300.000 people have witnessed Chef’Special’s breathtaking opening slot live at the venue and over a million people tuned in to watch the online live stream or tv broadcast of the show. The unique stage spectacular kicks of an anniversary year for Chef’Special as well. The Haarlem based 5-piece celebrates 15 years Chef’Special this year with it’s most spectacular headline show to date at Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam on April 29.
